In this course I expanded my writing skills by reporting and writing publishable feature stories. I researched, reported and wrote stories in a variety of formats including profiles, columns and in-depth features.
Principles of Marketing
This course provided me with a basic understanding of marketing concepts and practices. I analyzed various marketing problems and calculated the financial impact of specific marketing decisions.
Style and Design for Public Relations
This class focuses on the design and creation of a digital resume and portfolio built with HTML 5 coding. I learned Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 and 6 and can now use Photoshop, InDesign and Dreamweaver efficiently.
Writing for Public Relations
Through this course I learned how to format, edit and develop content for a press release, media alert, pitch, feature story, broadcast release, opinion editorial, image description and a media kit.

Survey Research Methods
This course is designed for public relations students to understand the importance of research through surveys. Our class was divided into small groups where we researched technology in the healthcare industry using the Qualtrics survey software.
Case Studies and Ethics
This course focused on past and current examples of ethical issues faced in public relations. My group researched Dove’s Real Beauty Campaign and compiled our own case study.
Through Newswriting, I learned how to write a clear and compelling news story. I learned how to identify what makes a story interesting to readers through practicing my “news judgment” skills.
Marketing Channel Systems
This course provided a marketing-management focus and decision-making framework for understanding marketing channels. I studied marketing channel design as well as conflict within the channel and the changing nature of power within the channel. We looked at the increasing importance of companies achieving a long-term competitive advantage.
